| About This Webinar Ear infections are not uncommon in children, and most resolve on their own or with antibiotics. But chronic middle ear infections (otitis media) may cause hearing loss or cause additional complications. Emerging Research Grants alumna Regie Santos-Cortez, M.D., Ph.D., will discuss pediatric hearing loss particularly as it relates to chronic middle ear infections. She will address the varied roles genes, tissues in the ear, and bacteria may play in the disorder and the importance of combined clinical and population studies. Meet the Speaker A 2011–2012 Emerging Research Grants (ERG) scientist, Regie Santos-Cortez, M.D., Ph.D., is an associate professor in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Hearing Health Hour is moderated by Anil Lalwani, M.D., a member of Hearing Health Foundation’s Board of Directors and the head of HHF’s Council of Scientific Trustees, which oversees the ERG program. He is a professor and the vice chair for research in the division of otology, neurology, and skull base surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and a co-director at the Columbia Cochlear Implant Program.
