The INCyL will host a practical workshop delivered by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), focused on the patentability of biotechnological inventions—a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant in the context of scientific research and knowledge transfer.
During the session, several key issues related to industrial property will be addressed in a clear and practical manner. These include an explanation of the different types of protection available, the legal framework governing patents, as well as the main exceptions to patentability that should be considered before initiating any protection process. In addition, the session will explore specific aspects related to the biotechnological field, such as inventions involving stem cells, DNA sequences, microbiological processes, and the development of medical devices—areas in which the regulatory framework presents particularly relevant nuances.
The workshop will have a strongly practical focus, enabling attendees to better understand how to apply this knowledge to their day-to-day professional activities, avoid common mistakes, and support strategic decision-making regarding the protection of research results.
The activity is aimed at a broad audience, including research staff, technical staff, research managers, and, in general, anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the tools available to protect scientific results in the biomedical and biotechnological fields. It is therefore a particularly valuable opportunity for those working on projects with transfer or innovation potential who wish to acquire a solid foundation in patent matters.
